Changing a reserved room, under our mountain stay cancellation policy

Our mountain stay cancellation policy is short because the rules that matter belong to the lodging. Each lodging sets its own deadline, its own fee and its own refund method, and the written quote prints all three before you say yes.

Whose rules apply

The lodging's. An inn in the Catskills may refund a deposit in full up to fourteen days before arrival; a lakeside hotel in the Poconos may keep one night's rate if you cancel within seven days. We copy the exact terms from the lodging into your quote, word for word where we can, so that nothing changes between the quote and the stay.

How to change dates

Write to the office or call on a weekday morning with the new dates. We ask the lodging whether the same room or a similar one is open, and send you the new figures in writing. The old reservation stays as it is until you approve the change, so you never end up with no room at all.

How to cancel

Tell us in writing which reservation you want to cancel. We pass it to the lodging the same afternoon on a weekday and forward the lodging's cancellation number when it arrives. If you prefer, you can also cancel directly with the lodging; please let us know so our records match.

Refunds

Any refund comes from the lodging, by the method it uses, normally back to the card you paid with. The office holds none of your money, so it has nothing to refund; what it does is follow up with the lodging if a refund it promised has not appeared.

When the lodging changes something

If a lodging moves you to another room or cannot honor a reservation, it owes you whatever its own terms say. We contact you as soon as we hear, offer other rooms at the same or another lodging, and send nothing to the lodging without your say.
